Exciting news! Tulsa IrishFest and Cabin Boys Brewery are launching the Cabin Boys Hooleys, a series of live music parties at the Cabin Boys Brewery in Tulsa.

The inaugural “Hooley” kicks off Monday, May 19 with a performance by the internationally acclaimed Young Dubliners. Before the main show, guests can enjoy a true Irish Session, welcoming local musicians to jam along to classic Celtic tunes.

The Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum is taking a “Journey of Hope” to all 77 counties to mark the 30th anniversary of the April 19, 1985 bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building.

The anniversary message, “A Day of Darkness – Years of Light,” will inspire students, church groups, civic clubs and families to embody the Oklahoma Standard: show up to serve, rise up to honor and step up to be kind. Each county will have a Survivor Tree sapling to represent hope, healing and resilience.

Explore a hay maze and see a wide display of scarecrows at the Autumn in the Botanic Garden festival. Through Oct. 31, the Tulsa Botanic Garden features a pumpkin patch, and on Thursday evenings, throw on your favorite costume as the Driskill Children’s Discovery Garden transforms into an enchanting garden for a BOOtanical experience with new games, loads of treats and costumed characters greeting and taking photos of guests.

For a young state, bicentennial celebrations are rare in Oklahoma. Fort Towson will commemorate its 200th anniversary on Saturday, May 18, recognizing the contributions of the soldiers, the Choctaw and Chickasaw people.

Guests can explore the Fort Towson Historical Site and learn from living historians about life in 1824 – clothing, topographical engineers, the first Choctaw mounted rifles, music, 1800s merchandise and livestock care (such as harnessing a team of mules). An artillery demonstration includes cannon fire, which was a part of daily life for the soldiers. The event is free to the public and festivities begin at 10 a.m.

Crystal digging season is open from April-Oct. 15 at the Salt Plains National Wildlife Refuge. Visitors are able to collect up to 10 pounds and one large cluster for their personal use; however, the selling of crystals is not allowed.

Crystal collection hours are sunrise to sunset in the digging area. Be sure to bring a small shovel, sunscreen and water with you as seasonal temperatures are warm.

The refuge is located at 66003 Garvin Road in Cherokee. Inside the gate, park in front of the orange “Dig Area” signs. Leashed pets are allowed and there is a restroom available.

America’s top canoe and kayak athletes will compete this weekend at RIVERSPORT for a berth on the U.S. Olympic Team at the 2024 Paris Games. These trials in Oklahoma City will be the second and final event for Team USA.

Canoe/kayak slalom events are timed where competitors navigate a whitewater course by passing through a combination of upstream and downstream gates. Kayak cross will debut in Paris with four kayakers in a head-to-head format, racing down a section of whitewater while negotiating several inflatable gates.

Admission is free; $20 for prime viewing. Come cheer on the Paris-bound Olympic hopefuls.

The city of Muskogee is enjoying the fruits of its new $110 million dollar school bond issue, and it is now dreaming of what can come next.

The Muskogee Chamber of Commerce held its annual luncheon in early December, inviting former OKC Mayor Mick Cornett to speak of his own city’s renaissance. Cornett, who now works for Jones PR, recounted OKC’s struggles until voters began investing in the city’s progress with the MAPS program.

Over 300 people attended the gathering on the high school campus, which was also highlighted by a farewell speech delivered by outgoing Muskogee Mayor Marlon Coleman.
