NBCUniversal has officially entered the streaming wars with its new Peacock service, launched nationwide on July 14. Consumers get their pick of three tiers:
• Free: 13,000 hours of content with ads.
• Premium: 20,000 hours of content for $4.99/month..
• Ad-free Premium: $10/month.
Users can access Peacock on most major devices and platforms. Negotiations were in progress with Roku and Amazon Fire TV, the leading connected TV platforms, but have since stalled. The company has plans to expand from 20 channels to 70 by the end of the year.
Random fun fact: The peacock has been a part of the NBC logo since 1956.
