Celebrating National Book Lovers Day featuring Ralph Ellison

Crack open your favorite book and find a great nook. Aug. 9 is National Book Lovers Day, celebrating the rich history of literacy and reading. One standout author from Oklahoma captured the minds and hearts of many, and his name was Ralph Ellison.

A National Book Award winner, Ellison wrote many inspiring novels including “Invisible Man,” “Shadow and Act” and “Juneteenth.”

Ellison shined light on diversity and the importance of promoting it through literature. He was a prominent figure for the African American community and spoke out on racial issues with his intellectual words for the American people to read.
