Patricius: The Origins of St. Patrick’s Day

There are many myths and legends surrounding the story of Saint Patrick, also known as the “Apostle of Ireland.” University of Oklahoma’s Senior Vice President and Provost Dr. Kyle Harper shares the story of Patricius, the name by which he was originally known.

Patricius lived during the fifth century in Roman Britain – England when it was under Roman rule. After an array of fascinating life events, Patricius eventually returned to Ireland and became a major influencer in history.

Dr. Harper’s research has focused on the social and economic history of the period spanning the Roman Empire and Early Middle Ages.
