by The 100 Companies

In honor of March being Women’s History Month, we will feature Oklahoma “first ladies” who broke societal barriers to be the first woman in their particular profession.

Born in Duncan, Dr. Jeane Kirkpatrick was an American political scientist, discerning scholar and diplomat who was a foreign policy adviser under President Ronald Reagan and the first American woman to serve as ambassador to the United Nations (1981–85).

Dr. Kirkpatrick was one of the modern era’s wisest experts on geopolitical issues. Among many other recognitions, she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor, in 1985.
