Chosen from a group of five finalists by the Council of Chief State School Officers, Rebecka Peterson was named National Teacher of the Year, the first Oklahoma winner since 1964.

Peterson is a math teacher at Tulsa Union High School, where 87 percent of her students pass the Advanced Placement calculus exam. She won the 2022 Oklahoma Teacher of the Year Award and has been traveling the state interviewing teachers for the Teachers of Oklahoma campaign.

She will spend the next year as an ambassador of the teaching profession. She and the four finalists visited the White House this week.
