On March 8, 2019, International Women’s Day, the United States Women’s National Team (USWNT) filed a lawsuit against the United States Soccer Federation (USSF) for gender discrimination.
The lawsuit cited figures from several different sources. A 2015 financial report showed the women were getting paid about a quarter of what the men earned, while other sources stated how female players earned $15,000 for making the national team, while men earned closer to $55,000.
Despite the women’s games generating more revenue than their male counterparts, the men’s team has shown its support and agree the women deserve equal pay.
