Weatherford readies for Rt. 66 Centennial

by The 100 Companies

Route 66, the historic “mother road” that takes travelers from Chicago to Los Angeles, celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2026 and Oklahoma cities and towns are well into preparations.

For example, in Weatherford, look for improved signage to direct visitors to the Stafford Air & Space Museum. Meanwhile, the annual Heartland Antique Car Show will be bigger and better than ever.

Oklahoma has more Route 66 miles than any other state. The increased traffic will improve the local economies of places like Elk City, Clinton, El Reno, Chandler, Vinita and Miami, as well as big cities like Oklahoma City and Tulsa.
