Its summertime and many Oklahomans fondly remember going to camp as a child. Whether it was church camp, scout camp, sports camp or another, summer camps were and are still a wonderful experience.
But they are not cheap, and for many Oklahoma families they are financially out of reach. PlaySmart, a 501(c)(3), helps underprivileged middle school students realize their academic and life potential through sports at their summer “academies.”
Students are exposed to multiple sports (including non-traditional ones like rugby, archery and lacrosse), but the focus is on life skills like nutrition, leadership, public speaking and etiquette.
