Thirty-six percent of Oklahoma fourth graders lack basic literary skills. Furthermore, if a student starts to fall behind in reading, they tend to fall further behind every year.
But Reading Partners is working to change reading outcomes for many children in Tulsa by helping students increase their reading level so they can have success in the future. There are 17 schools in Tulsa where volunteers can tutor students and help them become confident readers.
To participate in this rewarding program, individuals must pass a background check and commit to tutoring a student a minimum of one hour per week.
