Oklahoma honors retired astronaut as aviation and aerospace Woman of the Year

The Oklahoma Department of Aerospace and Aeronautics recently honored Col. Eileen Collins as the Woman of the Year at the Oklahoma Aviation and Aerospace Day luncheon.

As a distinguished former military instructor and test pilot, Collins made history as the first female pilot and commander of a space shuttle. At the luncheon on Friday, Dec. 8, she shared insights and experiences with attendees.

Col. Collins also conducted a book signing for her 2021 book, “Through the Glass Ceiling to the Stars: The Story of the First American Woman to Command a Space Mission,” leaving an inspiring mark on the occasion.
