TRIP and the Association of General Contractors notes the importance of adequate funding for roads and bridges. According to the TRIP report, “Keeping Oklahoma Moving Forward: Providing a World Class Transportation System in the Sooner State,” conditions of our road and bridges have improved, but our current statewide transportation needs still outpace available funding.
More than 50 percent of the 9,500 miles of two-lane highways lack sufficient shoulders. We also have one of the highest traffic fatality rates in the nation; and although Oklahoma’s 8-year plan addresses these highways, it only accounts for 15 percent of those lacking adequate shoulders.
