Aviation Expert Aims to Break World Record at 93

Karl Bergey, at age 93, is an expert in small aircraft design and aerodynamics. Since building model airplanes at age 5, Bergey has had an insatiable passion for aviation.

Bergey developed two of the most successful aviation aircrafts in the United States – the Piper PA-28 Cherokee series and the Commander 112 and 114 series. Bergey also owns 10 patents relating to aerospace, wind power and medical technology.

Bergey’s current project is to design, build and fly a High Altitude Research Plane (HARP) at 60,000 ft. to beat the 56,046 ft. world record set by Italy in 1938.
