In celebration of its 60th year, the Oklahoma Aeronautics Commission celebrated with a new name: Oklahoma Department of Aerospace and Aeronautics.
The elevation of the commission to a department and the renaming originated through legislation authored by Sen. Paul Rosino and Rep. Kyle Hilbert to further advance aeronautics (science of travel through air) and the study of aerospace (Earth’s atmosphere and the space beyond). Oklahoma’s newest department ensures commerce and community needs are met by the state’s 108 public airports, fosters growth of the aerospace industry, helps to meet workforce needs in aerospace and raises awareness of aerospace job opportunities.
