July: the Sweetest Month of the Year

by

President Reagan designated July as National Ice Cream Month in 1984. Reagan recognized ice cream to be a fun, nutritious treat over 90 percent of the population enjoys. Reagan suggested citizens celebrate with appropriate activities.

Here are some fun ice cream facts:

• Chocolate syrup is the world’s most popular ice cream topping.

• Rocky Road was the first widely available flavor other than vanilla, chocolate and strawberry.

• About 9 percent of milk produced in the U.S. is used to make ice cream.

• It takes about 50 licks to finish a single scoop.

Celebrate at your favorite local ice cream shop!
