In 2021, the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority (OTA) celebrates the 30th anniversary of its electronic toll collection system, PIKEPASS. Oklahoma was the first state in the nation to create an all-electronic toll collection system in 1991. The technology is now used in all 50 states and internationally.
“This anniversary marks more than just 30 years of electronic tolling,” Secretary of Transportation Tim Gatz said. “It represents Oklahoma’s innovative efforts to keep motorists safe while driving, which has been and always will be a top priority.”
PIKEPASS was developed by former OTA Executive Director Richard Ridings to improve the traffic flow along Oklahoma turnpikes.
