If you have been in Oklahoma five minutes then no doubt you have heard about the “SCOOP and STACK plays.” You probably figured out they were oil and gas terms and not something acted out on stage, but may still remain largely in the dark.
So here’s the answer: A “play” is a geographical location of potential reserves that have similar geological properties. The area is grouped and given a nickname.
Oklahoma has many plays but two notable ones making headlines across the nation are:
• SCOOP: South Central Oklahoma Oil Province
• STACK: Sooner Trend Anadarko Basin Canadian and Kingfisher Counties
