Founded in 1903, Boley was home to more than 4,000 citizens by 1911, earning its title as one of the largest All-Black Towns of Oklahoma (and one of only 13 still in existence).
Boley had its own electrical generating plant, water system and ice plant during its prime, and was said to be home to the tallest building between Oklahoma City and Okmulgee in 1912. Its roots are buried deep in opportunity and prosperity – especially for key leaders such as Booker T. Washington.
Today, visitors flock to Boley during Memorial Day weekends to celebrate the nation’s oldest African American community-based rodeo.
