Turnpike Authority urges safe driving near snow plows

by
snowplow safety tips

When winter weather hits, Oklahoma Turnpike Authority (OTA) snow and tow plows aren’t far behind. OTA’s concern for driver safety is growing, as more snow plows are hit by motorists who become distracted or impatient when following.

OTA encourages you to follow these tips if you find yourself behind a snowplow:

1. Stay 250 feet behind the snow plow.

2. Resist the urge to pass.

3. Be patient – take advantage of the cleared path.

Additionally, OTA offers a road condition hotline at 1-877-403-7623, for motorists to call ahead of traveling on Oklahoma’s turnpikes. Drive aware, arrive alive!
