The Shopping Cart Gets Special Upgrade

by

One of the first shopping carts was invented in Oklahoma and introduced on June 4, 1937. Recently, a young girl named Caroline Long inspired much-needed enhancements to the standard design.

Caroline’s Cart is a shopping cart for special needs children and adults with a variety of disabilities. Caroline’s Cart was created after Caroline’s parents recognized the impossible task of maneuvering a wheelchair and shopping cart at the same time. Her mother, Drew Ann Long, designed the cart to promote inclusion and accessibility for families in every grocery store.

Target introduced Caroline’s Cart on March 19 to stores nationwide.
