The Oklahoma Insurance Department (OID) announced its Earthquake Awareness Month campaign on Friday, Feb. 2 with a post on X, formerly Twitter, to educate homeowners on the importance of earthquake insurance. Eight hours later, central Oklahoma experienced a 5.1 magnitude quake. The irony was not lost on the department’s audience, and the post quickly garnered the attention of over 43,000 users.
Unlike standard policies, earthquake insurance is an additional safeguard, covering repairs, unattached structures, personal property and living expenses during home reconstruction.
OID encourages homeowners to reach out by calling 800-522-0071 or visiting the Earthquakes webpage for information and assistance.
