The southern portion of the Kickapoo Turnpike opened on Jan. 5, 2021. The first section opened to Oklahoma travelers in October 2020 with a virtual ribbon cutting featuring former OU and OSU football stars Barry Switzer and Pat Jones, respectively.
This section will finish the 21-mile connection between I-40 and I-44/Turner Turnpike, helping relieve traffic congestion for the thousands of motorists who travel across Oklahoma each day.
In addition to the completion of the turnpike, the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority also looks forward to the conversion of cash tolling to electronic tolling in 2021, further enhancing safety on Oklahoma’s turnpikes.
