The Oklahoma Commission on the Status of Women will induct five leaders into the Oklahoma Women’s Hall of Fame on Sept. 27. Each honoree inspires women to lead and make a difference in their profession or community.
The inductees this year are Dr. Susan Chambers, who founded a female-focused hospital; 1967 Miss America Jane Jayroe Gamble, the first winner to travel to a combat zone; journalist Joan Gilmore, one of the first female editors; Commissioner Willa Johnson, the first African-American woman elected to Oklahoma City Council; and Chief Kay Rhoades, one of a few women leading a tribe.
