‘The Outsiders’ wins Tony Award for Best Musical

“The Outsiders,” based on the bestselling novel by S.E. Hinton, won Best Musical at the 77th Annual Tony Awards, held on Sunday, June 16. Hinton was in attendance at the awards show.

The musical’s company delivered a medley of “Tulsa ’67” and “Grease Got a Hold,” and the performance was introduced by Angelina Jolie, who is one of the musical’s producers.

The musical also won awards for Best Direction of a Musical, Best Lighting Design of a Musical and Best Sound Design of a Musical.
