Maria Tallchief (1925-2013) was an Osage dancer known as “America’s first prima ballerina,” and she now has her own Barbie doll as part of the Barbie Inspiring Women series. This was announced last Thursday, and it is in celebration of Native American Heritage Month.
“Maria Tallchief was an extraordinary person with immense talent who remained grounded in her Osage culture,” said Osage Nation Principal Chief Geoffrey Standing Bear in a statement, according to The Oklahoman. “She remains a guiding light for many across the globe, especially here at home on the Osage Nation Reservation.”
