At age 15, Tulsa native Susan Eloise (S.E.) Hinton began writing the best-selling novel “The Outsiders” and reshaped the country’s Young Adult genre. She is one of the best-known writers of Young Adult novels. More than 15 million copies were sold and inspired a Francis Ford Coppola film.
Her love for writing began at a young age and grew even more when she found that the Young Adult book selection was limited.
In addition, a few of her other books –– “Tex,” “Rumble Fish” and “That Was Then, This Is Now,” have been produced into movies. Stay gold, S.E. Hinton!
