Oklahoma City’s lease with the Oklahoma City Thunder ended this month, and while a short-term extension was approved to run through 2025-26, there is discussion going on about what it will take to keep the team in town.
Voters have approved the $1 billion MAPS 4 plan that includes $111 million for upgrades. Officials are holding back $70 million that could go to a new arena, which would replace the 21-year-old Paycom Center.
Mayor David Holt says a new arena is key to maintaining the team and plans to present a proposal to the people of Oklahoma City this summer.
