Born in Stigler, Oklahoma in 1924, Julian “Curly” Lewis fiddled his fingers to the bone for nearly 80 years.
Curly began playing the fiddle at nine years old. At 11, he entered and won a three-day fiddle contest to join a band with Bob Wills – King of Western Swing. Curly was too young to accept, but it landed him a radio interview on Tulsa’s KVOO.
Years later, he joined Wills and spent most of his time performing at Cain’s Ballroom. The musician was inducted into the National Fiddler Hall of Fame in 2013. Learn more at Voices of Oklahoma.
