Surfing is hardly what visitors to Tulsa anticipate, but now the city is catching the eye of surfers nationwide. The Tulsa Wave Park has sparked a surfing culture along the Arkansas River, featuring standing waves that let surfers ride and carve continuously, with no need to wait for the next wave.
The park uses hydraulic engineering to create perpetual surfable waves – 500 miles from the nearest ocean beach. River Parks Authority Executive Director Jeff Edwards said the wave park is part of a larger $50 million project including a pedestrian bridge and upgrades to the dam. Let’s surf in Tulsa!
