From the vantage point of 30,000 feet, most cities are indistinguishable. Certainly, most cities are not clearly labeled for the benefit of passing aviators. Tulsa is not like most cities, however.
Since 1927, Tulsa’s Reservoir Hill has been home to the historic Aviator’s Arrow. The iconic sign – which spells out “TULSA” in 50-foot tall letters of crushed white marble – was first created before the invention of radar. The arrow pointed aviators, including Charles Lindbergh, to the city’s old McIntyre Airport.
As part of a recent citywide refurbishment, Aviator’s Arrow was restored and now points to the current Tulsa International Airport.
