The official groundbreaking ceremony for the new Gilcrease Museum in Tulsa was May 3, 2022. This date was chosen to commemorate the 73rd anniversary of the original museum opening by Thomas Gilcrease in 1949. Demolition of the building has begun to make way for the new $83.6 million state-of-the-art facility.
The family and community are excited to see this project come together as a continuation of the Gilcrease family legacy. Construction on the new American history and art institute is scheduled to take two to three years to complete.
