Memorial Day, which was historically named Decoration Day, began after the Civil War and was officially recognized as a national holiday in 1971.
Many observe Memorial Day by paying respects at cemeteries or memorials, gathering with family and participating in or attending parades. However you enjoy Memorial Day, remember our fallen heroes.
