Each day, Goodwill Industries of Central Oklahoma helps people facing challenges to employment through job training and career placement services that wouldn’t be possible without donations from local Oklahomans.

This Giving Tuesday, Goodwill reminds everyone that we make giving easy. Simply clean out your closet, garage or attic and donate gently used items to your local Goodwill. Donations are sold in Goodwill retail stores and generate revenue from which 88 cents of every dollar earned is used to help people who face challenges to finding employment.

Dolese Bros. Co. employees are strong supporters of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) Oklahoma Chapter through Light the Night Walk and Dolese’s Rock The Block. This Giving Tuesday, Dolese is helping spread awareness about LLS and its mission.

The mission of LLS is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. LLS works to fulfill its mission through cutting-edge research, free blood cancer information, education and support for patients, survivors and families with a nationwide grassroots network of more than 100,000 volunteers.

This Giving Tuesday, give back by enhancing quality of life for individuals with disabilities and disadvantages through the power of work with Goodwill Industries of Central Oklahoma.

The easiest solution to give back is simply cleaning out your closet! Donate unwanted goods to Goodwill and stick around to shop 50 percent off the Color of the Week. It’s not only cheaper for you, but funds numerous programs.

Feeding our kids a healthy dose of education during the developmental stages of a child’s growth pays dividends.

Early Birds is a school readiness program for parents-to-be and parents of children up to age five. The program places an emphasis on learning from birth and helping parents establish strong educational expectations for their children. Physical, social, emotional and cognitive skills are taught as children prepare for kindergarten, which ultimately improves reading and education.

Grants and donations help this vital educational organization operate, and Early Birds could use your help to continue to feed kids’ growing appetites for knowledge.

For many parents, Parent Promise is a much needed parenting manual.

For 29 years, Parent Promise has aimed to prevent the neglect and abuse of Oklahoma’s children through its voluntary parent education and support programs. Parents learn about caring for children and important parenting skills, while having access to a large resource library.

By making a donation to Parent Promise, you are empowering parents to put their children on a course for success by delivering the tools, education and support needed to raise children in an environment that allows for the proper developmental, emotional and physical growth every child deserves.

Dolese employees are strong supporters of the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma, donating more than 812 volunteer hours and 5,355 pounds of food since 2013.

Dolese is sponsoring the Fight Hunger Faster campaign by matching donations up to $25,000 in 2017 and $30,000 in 2018 — providing the equivalent of 200,000 meals for hungry Oklahomans.

Can’t decide where to give your money or time for Giving Tuesday? Donating to Redbud Classic is a great way to donate to multiple causes in one.

Celebrating its 36^th year, Redbud offers running and cycling events for the community to enjoy a day of fun, fitness and philanthropy. Every year, the Redbud Classic selects a new beneficiary. This year’s proceeds benefit Whiz Kids Oklahoma.

Your donation not only helps execute the race, but continues the Oklahoma City tradition of giving more than a quarter million dollars to the community. Mark your calendar for the April 7-8 race!

One local Sprint store, located in the Westgate Marketplace in Oklahoma City, is finding a new way to surprise and delight the members of the community.

During a time when many families are preparing for the holidays, Sprint is finding families who are eating nearby and coming over and surprising them with a free meal. No catch, simply offering people the opportunity for Sprint to say, “Have a Bite on Us.”

Sprint Sales Manager Brad Berrett started the effort and has helped other managers start their own random acts of kindness campaigns. Help spread holiday cheer by passing it forward.

For Oklahomans re-entering the community and workplace after incarceration, The Education and Employment Ministry provides re-entry services to equip and empower individuals to become productive members of society.

TEEM’s Culinary Techniques/ServSafe program helps people like Robin obtain skills for employment needed to break the cycle of poverty and incarceration. After more than 10 years in prison, TEEM helped Robin secure stable employment and advance her career. This transformational process provides hope for adults in need of a second chance.

For more than 100 years, Catholic Charities Archdiocese of Oklahoma City has served as a stabilizing force in the community, providing critical and necessary services to all in need.

Catholic Charities serves the entire state of Oklahoma through multiple initiatives addressing a multitude of needs among the community. More than 12,000 Oklahomans, regardless of race, religion or national origin, accessed Catholic Charities’ services in the previous fiscal year. Dale Rogers Training Center (DRTC), Oklahoma’s oldest and largest community vocational training and employment center for people with disabilities, received the Oklahoma City Mayor’s Committee on Disability Concerns’ 2017 Employer of the Year Award.

DRTC provides training or employment opportunities for 1,000 people with disabilities every year. The nonprofit, which received its third consecutive CARF Accreditation in 2017, offers many programs to provide opportunities for individuals served.

Giving Tuesday isn’t a tradition as old as you might expect.

The annual tradition originated in 2012 as a collection of tech companies and news outlets pushed the initiative forward under the term #GivingTuesday on social media. Coming in the wake of popular shopping days like Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Giving Tuesday was a way to give back.

Over the next several years, participation grew and in 2016 an estimated $168 million in charitable giving was donated. The 2017 total is still to be determined, but there is still time for you to contribute to your favorite nonprofit organization!

Giving Tuesday has become a top fundraising day.

Recently, corporations have sought ways to join the Giving Tuesday movement. Facebook noticed the trend and knew the platform needed to adapt to help more nonprofits benefit from the corporations looking for local and smaller organizations that could benefit from an end of the year gift.

From Facebook users to business pages, all have the ability to select a nonprofit and set up a fundraiser on their own. Nonprofits are also now able to collect donations directly from Facebook. We no longer live in a society that requires a checkbook to donate.
