Facebook recently announced that both Facebook and Instagram users will soon be able to turn off all social issue, electoral or political ads from candidates, Super PACs or other organizations that have the “paid for by” political disclaimer on them. It was implemented in certain locations in the United States but will begin rolling out to everyone soon.
Recently, Facebook added the “Special Ad” category and increased its requirements to publish political advertisements so this doesn’t come as a shock. They’re working to also create a Voting Information Center including guidance on how to register and who’s eligible to vote.
