Oklahoma crosses bridge on improvements

Oklahoma is en route to being a top 10 state for structurally sound bridges. At a recent Oklahoma Transportation Commission meeting in Oklahoma City, Transportation Executive Director Tim Gatz announced that Oklahoma is down to 132 structurally deficient bridges.

This is a significant improvement from 2004, when more than 1,165 structurally deficient bridges were reported. Oklahoma now ranks 13th in the nation for fewest structurally deficient highway-system bridges.

This progress is a result of the increased funding and the Oklahoma Department of Transportation’s eight-year plan that was created to help improve and fix Oklahoma’s roads and bridges.
