In some places talking about the weather is considered mundane, but in Oklahoma as we approach spring’s severe storm season, understanding the weather can be a matter of life and death.
The NOAA National Severe Storms Laboratory (NSSL), located in Norman’s National Weather Center, is working to modernize our country’s 50-year-old system of severe weather “watches” and “warnings” through a program called FACETs.
Using technological advancements and social science, they are creating the next-generation severe weather watch and warning framework to be modern, flexible and designed to communicate clear and simple hazardous weather information to the public.
