Ellen’s Bookmobile Benefits Tulsa Area

by

Tulsa educators and The Ellen DeGeneres Show fans Kirby Mackenzie and Lisa Shotts started their own summer reading “Bookmobile,” delivering books to students in the McAuliffe Elementary School feeder locations.

Upon learning about Oklahoma’s state budget crisis, Ellen DeGeneres jumped on board as one of the program’s biggest supporters by upgrading Kirby and Lisa’s transportation and donating a red Bookmobile and $25,000 to supply McAuliffe educators with necessary supplies.

Kids in the area anxiously greet the Bookmobile that plays attention-grabbing current pop hits. Each student is offered 10 free books that they can exchange throughout the summer months.
