OKC Heart Ball Saves Lives

by

While training for an Ironman Triathlon in 2013, Rick Hansing experienced numbness in one foot, disorientation and a severe headache.

The next day, his wife Carolyn attended an American Heart Association event and learned sudden numbness, dizziness, difficulty seeing and loss of coordination are stroke symptoms. Carolyn then convinced Rick to seek medical attention. After two ER trips and several tests, Rick was diagnosed with spontaneous carotid artery dissection and three brain injuries due to a minor stroke.

The Hansing family credits the American Heart Association and the OKC Heart Ball and Sweetheart program for raising awareness and supporting research.
