In February, J.D. Power released its annual Vehicle Dependability Study with Lexus, Porsche and BMW ranking as the top three.
That’s no surprise, but the study also found that vehicle reliability across brands has fallen 40% since 2019. Back then, drivers of 2016 model-year vehicles reported experiencing roughly 136 problems per 100 vehicles. Today, owners of 2021 model-year vehicles report experiencing 190. Even Lexus owners are reporting 23% more problems than they did before the pandemic.
Are Gen Y/Z buyers just more likely to notice and report issues? Either way, all the more reason to buy the most reliable car possible.
