Oklahoma has more than 18,000 abandoned wells, many of them decades old. With thousands more likely undocumented, the need for proper well plugging is urgent, especially as incidents like the recent sinkhole in the Permian Basin show what can happen when previously plugged wells fail.
Red Dirt Energy, an Oklahoma-based company working under both state and federal programs, is leading the charge to plug these wells safely and permanently. COO Scott St. John recently spoke to KTUL-Channel 8 in Tulsa about the importance of prioritizing this environmental issue and the critical role that funding plays in addressing this statewide challenge.
