As the COVID-19 pandemic shook our nation, Tulsa Cancer Treatment Center Nurse Jennifer Wingo immediately felt called to take a four-week absence to help relieve nurses working on the frontline in New York City, the epicenter of the coronavirus.
“Hearing the rings makes me cry every time. They’re still doing it. They’re still ringing pots and pans and honking horns just like on TV,” Wingo said. “It is real.”
Within days, Wingo was working at Jacobi Hospital in the Bronx. Since she isn’t an ICU or emergency room nurse, her assistance went to those recovering in isolation before being discharged.
