I once skipped school to float the Illinois River only to be busted by Charles Ely, who was reporting from the river that day.
I was reminded of this recently while watching The Bachelorette, when bachelor Chad Johnson said floating is “like one of the only things we have in Oklahoma.” While I disagree it’s one of the only things we have in Oklahoma, it’s certainly fun.
This is a great time of year to float the Illinois River through the Cookson Hills northeast of Tahlequah. Whether in a canoe, kayak or raft, you’re sure to have a good time!
