What makes a regional leader?

by The 100 Companies

As the keynote speaker at the annual NORLI luncheon, Rachel Shields, LA Economic Development’s chief engagement officer, offered these thoughts on being a regional leader:
Lead with humility while embracing diverse voices
Show up; deliver what you’re able to
Seek unity; voices are more effective together
Understand power dynamics; diplomacy is needed to navigate conflict
Read the room; know your audience
Celebrate your successes to gain leverage in your region
Recognize others’ talents; push them to reach higher
Elevate other leaders with shared goals; your successes are inextricably linked
Regionalism is about partnerships and duty
Continue to inspire and serve
