Oklahoma City startup produces viable plant-based plastic alternative

by The 100 Companies

Sharina Perry is an Oklahoma City inventor and entrepreneur whose product, Utopia Plastix, is a plant-based alternative to petroleum-based plastics such as plastic bags and single-use straws.

Perry founded Utopia Genetics to distribute her trademarked, patent-pending Utopia Plastix, and she also founded Utopia Solutions to produce the product.

Through extensive research, Perry developed a plant resin compound and perfected a process to create a usable plastic alternative. Through Perry’s partnerships with other manufacturers, Utopia Plastix is now being used to produce straws for food product distributor Ben E. Keith as well as eco-friendly blown plastic bags through Poly Films, Inc.
