Oklahoma is growing — So much so that our state is officially adding a fifth area code to ensure there will be enough phone numbers to serve Oklahomans. This change will mostly impact residents currently living in Oklahoma City and central Oklahoma.
The new area code, 572, will be added in mid-May of 2021. But, starting on April 24, 2021, residents of the 405 area code boundary will have to use a 10-digit number when dialing out.
In other areas of Oklahoma, such as the area covered by the 918 area code, this practice has been in place for several years.
