Just over a decade ago, social media hardly played a factor in American political campaigns. The 2008 election cycle changed this and was the first to see social media used as a primary tool to interact with voters.
Since then, politicians have found more creative ways to use digital online platforms, and the use of tweets and posts has changed political campaigns forever.
As the new “digital generation” becomes the primary voting populace, social media sites and platforms will only continue to increase in importance. In 2020 and beyond, tweeting could be what gets a candidate over the finish line.
