A Mindful Walk

by

In the West we’re always walking with a purpose, whether it’s to arrive somewhere or shed our love handles. Our two speeds are essentially “stop” and “go.”

But monks and the mindful find value in a half-speed stroll. Called “mindful walks” by the cenobites, deliberately slow walks allow you to better connect with nature and calm the body and mind.

So next time you pace around the neighborhood, try their version instead; silence your phone, slow your step and simply soak in the beauty around you. Autumn’s gentle breezes and colorful canopy create the perfect setting for mindful walks.
