Hydropower in Oklahoma

by

Many Oklahomans don’t know McClellan-Kerr Arkansas River Navigation System (MKARNS) has two hydropower plants. Additionally, there are six more in the state not on MKARNS.

The Robert S. Kerr plant has four 27.5-megawatt generators, which are located in Robert S. Kerr Lock and Dam Number 15, eight miles south of Sallisaw, and became fully operational in 1971.

The Webbers Falls Lock and Dam Number 16 is the home to the other plant on MKARNS. It has three 20-megawatt generators that were all online by November 1973. These plants provide approximately 636,500 users with clean energy.
